Paleochristian painting
Paleochristian painting represents, just as paleochristian sculpture, scenes and messages from the Gospel or scenes that are typical of the religious life of the time. That's why some of the most commun topics are people in prayer, with the arms stretched while another one is the sacrament of communion.
This painting doesn't have the realistic quality of roman painting. The strokes are fast and imprecise.
One can however appreciate in it the greek influence in the treatment of the folds and the oriental influence in its constant use of symbolisme, but what is important is the transmission of the idea, of the religious message.
