Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres (1780-1867).

Ingres, a pupil of David and a strict admirer of antiquity, stands out for the exact perfection of his drawing, the beautiful quality of his shades and textures, the contrast and balance of his composition, the Wermer-like transparence of his light and an overall mastery of technique.

Excellent portrait painter, he leaves among others, a beautiful picture of the "Princess de Broglie".

His masterpiece, however, is probably "The great Odalisque", famous for the sinuous length of her back and the qualities formerly mentionned.
