Romanticism appears at the end of the XVIIIth and begining of the XIXth century. It shows a reaction against Classicism, Baroque and Rococo. It is the art of the "third state", not the art of the church or of the nobility.

Technically, it reacts against the rules, searches for movement and gives color a high value.

If architecture progresses haphazardly, sculpture evolves surprisingly and painting produces generously.
